REPAIR - Masonry's single greatest enemy is water intrusion. All exterior structures receive some form of depreciation during these Minnesota winters, especially structures above the roof. Freezing temps and icy snow not only can create major issues for your chimney, but can cause harm to interior components as well. Preventative maintenance and yearly inspections are crucial to the structural integrity of all your masonry structures. Cracked mortar joints, spalling (flaking, crumbling) brick, loose brick, are all signs of deterioration. A failed chimney crown and/or cap, can lead to a compromised chimney.
RESTORATION - Are you thinking of bringing a masonry structure back from the dead to it's former glory? A good pressure wash cleaning may be all that it needs. Keep an eye out for efflorescence (white powdery substance), water stains, mold and mildew. They are all signs of water intrusion. Bulging or shifted structures are also big issues to be aware of. Protecting, stabilizing, and maintaining your structure is the best way to avoid the costly repairs that the future may hold.
NEW CONSTRUCTION - Some may say that Masonry has become a dying art. In the not so distant past there was always some form of masonry on or around your home. In today's world very few homeowners/business owners go with masonry because of the high cost of materials and labor. Not to mention the high risk mentality of "quantity over quality", that many of us have experienced throughout today's world. If your willing to take a step back with me and think about a masonry project that would really add value to your home or business, I'd love to be the one to bring that vision to life.
